Lesson Format

All lessons begin on time. Students will be expected to catch their own horse, groom, tack their horse up, cool their horse off, and untack their horse in their lesson time, in addition to their instructed riding time.

If you do not show up within 15 minutes of your lesson time, we will assume that you are not coming. The lesson will not be refunded or rescheduled.

If you arrive to your lesson early, you will be expected to wait until at least 5 minutes before your lesson to go to the barn. Please do not interrupt lessons. Students may not go into the pastures unless instructed.

Weather

Lessons are held in light rain and shine unless otherwise noted. Lessons will be cancelled in the event of dangerous weather; heavy rain, lightning, high wind, snow, and extreme cold.

Lessons are often cancelled in the extreme heat. If the heat index is over 95°, we will proceed with extreme caution. If the heat index is over 105°, we will generally cancel for the safety of our horses, riders, and staff.

Cancellations due to weather will always be made up. We try to cancel due to weather as late as possible since the weather forecast changes so quickly.

Notice

Black Dog Farm reserves the right to refuse service to anyone at any time. While it is not possible to list every circumstance in advance, some examples include: incorrect attire, inappropriate/abusive behavior toward horses, staff, or students, disregard for the rules and procedures whether written or oral, late arrival, or excessive anxiety.
