ZiZi has been with Black Dog Farm's lesson program longer than any of the other horses. Throughout all of the years, ZiZi has remained a pony full of spunk. You would never guess that she is over seventeen years old. Even with her energy, ZiZi loves to tote around the littlest of riders with great care. Her smooth trot is a barn favorite!
Cricket was born as a surprise on May 20th, 2012. A few short years later in 2016, Cricket came to Black Dog Farm for training, but she ended up becoming a permanent member of the family.
Cricket now has the reputation at the farm for being the lesson pony with the biggest attitude! Even with her attitude, Cricket is a kid's favorite for jumping and cantering. Her easy jump and smooth canter are easy to fall in love with.
Garnet is Black Dog Farm's senior lesson horse at nearly 26 years young. She is one of the favorites among the riding students. Before Garnet came to our farm, she did competitive barrel racing, dressage, jumping, reining, and many other events. Now she does beginner riding lessons during the week and barrel races on the weekends. She enjoys peppermints and apples after a lesson!
Paris is a fully registered Tennessee Walking Horse, born on May 15th, 2003. Paris has a very impressive pedigree, with many World Grand Champions and sons/daughters of World Grand Champions. She is one of our original lesson horses and has the hearts of many.
Olive is the goofiest and sweetest horse on the property. She is a coming six year old, born on April 1st in 2016. Olive has come so far in the nearly two years that BDF has owned her, and is one of our most reliable lesson ponoes.
Scout aka "Belly Holiday" is a sixteen year old registered Quarter Horse mare. Scout was bought in October of 2020. She had been used a hunter jumper lesson horse in Nashville, TN before coming to Black Dog Farm. Scout is now used in all of our riding lessons, for beginners or advanced riders.
Velvet is a thirteen year old black shetland pony mare. She has bounced around from home to home, mostly as a kid's horse. She is now leased out to a lesson family.
Salem was Black Dog Farm's fourth lesson horse. Unfortunately, Salem got extremely sick very fast and the vets could not figure out what was wrong. She passed away in January of 2019. We all miss very very much.
Much like Cricket, Remington was born as a surprise July 6th, 2011. Remi came to Black Dog Farm as practically an untouched, wild pony in the spring of 2019. She has come a really long way, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Remi loves to be brushed and loved on by all of the students at the barn. Remi was sold to a private family in 2020.
Nova was rescued in August of 2020. She had been neglected and abused in her past, and was on her way to a slaughter house. Black Dog Farm rehabilitated Nova and then found her a forever retirement home. Nova has learned to love people and loves to be brushed. Nova was sold to a private family in 2020.
Pepper was one of our rescues from 2020. He was a 35 year old Pony of Americas gelding. He suddenly got very sick and was put down a couple days later, on May 16th, 2021. We all miss him very much and we are so sad that we did not get more time with him.
Banjo is Black Dog Farm's resident farm hand. He works very hard to make sure that all of the horses and riders keep in line. And yes - his ears will stay like that forever!
